The house was built by the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy of St. Charles Borromeo; it was founded in 1865 as a private school for girls. The school was closed during the war, but after its brief restoration, it was reopened under the Education Act on unified schooling, and the state took over the building. In 1994, it was returned to the Congregation and then partially leased. Today, the building is home to Park Lane International School, which provides students with instruction in English as part of a two-year degree programme culminating in an international baccalaureate. The curriculum also includes emotional and ethical preparation. Extra-curricular activities and students’ involvement in community service complement their education.
