The palace was built on the site of several original Gothic houses. This two-storey building spreads around two courtyards with remnants of sgraffiti and remains of Renaissance elements. After 1989, the palace was returned to the Lobkowicz family, who played an essential role in Czech history; it is the only privately owned palace within the grounds of Prague Castle. The family established a museum there, which houses one of the largest and oldest art collections in the Czech Republic, and the original owners own it. The collection, housed in twenty-two exhibition halls, contains around 2,000 exhibits. In addition to precious artworks, one can also see the Lobkowicz family members´ personal items and music scores written by renowned composers.
Please note: The exits from Prague Castle are closed at 22:00 (the exit to the Powder Bridge and the tram stop Pražský hrad) and at 23:00 the others.
