The history of the house with a small courtyard gallery dates back to the 17th century when it served as a lodge. It was used by the Prague Castle employees who were taking care of the game park in the Stag Moat. Its caretaker lived there until 1821. Since then, the building has served as a butcher’s shop and also a tavern. The modern history of the house was written in 1987 by its new owners, who reconstructed it and later opened a café there. The studio, which is accessible through a massive wooden door in the wall next to the house, was built in the 1990s in the garden by the sculptor Josef Nálepa, who was also a medallist and portrait painter. He portrayed many Czech artists in his studio in New World Street and even Salvador Dalí in Spain.
