It is an autobiographical story about the twists and turns in the life of an English family living in the Loire Valley. Tommy is a man on the threshold of middle age, frustrated by his hated office job, which he instead pretends to do without much success. When he and his girlfriend are both laid off from their jobs, he decides to trade London for the French countryside and pursue his dream of starting a microbrewery. However, the way to this dream is thorny, mainly due to Tommy himself. He becomes a father before he becomes a brewer and, out of necessity, a gardener. Still, despite countless blunders, missteps, accidents, misunderstandings, and a hellhound named Burt, all turns out well in the end.
