Somewhere in Stockholm, a female narrator is lying bedridden with a fever. Her sick body awakens her mind, and fragments of memory emerge – of her first love, Johanna, who became a celebrity; of her uninhibited university roommate, Niki; of the eccentric musician, Alejandro, with whom she had an affair; and of the fragile, traumatized Birgitte. The narrative consists of four portraits made up of seemingly insignificant details. But at the very edge of feverish madness, the question arises: Who is the whole picture’s main character anyway – the persons on the finished canvas or the one holding the paintbrush?
