Born in Lübeck and now living in Berlin, Svealena Kutschke completed an academic degree in cultural studies and aesthetic practice. After her literary debut in 2009, she received several scholarships and completed writing residencies from the Goethe-Institut in China, Poland and Croatia. She publishes regularly in magazines and anthologies. Her latest novel, Stadt aus Rauch (City of Smoke) has been released in Dutch translation by Atlas Contact with the title Een stad, het meisje en de duivel. It interweaves 20th century German history with a family saga, and is furthermore a declaration of love to her hometown.
