Jaroslav Rudiš is a writer, musician, artist, playwright and journalist. He studied German language and literature, history and journalism at the Technical University Liberec, the Charles University Prague and the Free University Berlin. He broke through with his debut, Nebe pod Berlínem (The sky under Berlin, 2000), in both the Czech Republic and Germany. The Dutch translation his latest novel, Het volk boven, was recently published, following Het einde van de punk in Helsinki in 2016. Rudiš writes in both Czech and German, and was the first non-native German speaker to be awarded the prestigious Preis de Literaturhäuser.
